"Maybe Im Amazed"

"Maybe Im Amazed"

By Paul McCartney

What can you say about such an magnificent piece. This past week I was sitting with a friend listening to this piece. She told me that this piece always brought piece to her mind and calmed her nervous. I couldn't agree more, Paul McCartney expresses what love truly is. As we both sat there she explained to me about how when listening to this piece with your eyes closed it can carry you away. I am well aware that it might feel weird to sit in a room with your eyes closed and listen to a piece but highly recommended it. As we both layer on their great room floor with our eyes closed I was truly taken away. I honestly am having a hard time finding words to truly describe the beauty and magnificence of this piece, you just have to listen to it.

"Superstition"

"Superstition"

This is what one of my professors said about this piece and i don't think you could have put it anymore perfectly

"Here is an absolutely wonderful live performance of a classic Stevie tune. The band is incredibly tight . . . and perhaps most of all, having a good time . . . the energy of the performance is a combination of expertise and the love of performance . . . and maybe Big Bird."

Everyone stood up, most everyone already were, the crowd started to sing and scream, the energy was immense! i was very lucky to share this moment with a close friend of mine, it was one of those moments you will never forget. The crowd sang out the lyrics with all their heart and danced with all there soul. This song is meant to be turned up loud and danced to!

"Hey Jude"

"Hey Jude"

This is on of my favorite songs by The Beatles. The song was originally released as the first single under the Apple label. The song was written Paul McCartney for John Lennons son Julian. There is on aspect to this piece that causes me to listen to it time after time again, that would be Pauls singing. When you sit down and listen to this piece you can tell that Paul gets so into the piece and i can't help but imagine him sitting behind the piano rocking out to this wonderful piece. When everyone joins in with "na na na na na na" i can't help but join in also.

"Thistle & Weeds"

"Thistle & Weeds"

There is one element of this piece that makes it really stand out in my mind, that is Marcus Mumford's voice. He sings this song with such affection it really reaches out to you. Mumford and Sons start this piece out slowly and gradually start building it up and up, at they start to expand it more and more finally building the piece into this huge accumulation of emotion (or awesomeness), and at the end they bring it back to the beginning where it ends.

"Save Me"

"Save Me"

I find this song to be very interesting. Dave Matthews tells a story about a man who just wants to be saved, we don't know exactly what it means to be saved, just that he wants to be. Thats what I find so cool about this song, you can create you own opinion about what this piece means. Its not a very long piece but its a great song. And of course his performance of the piece is amazing.

"You and Me"

"You and Me"

If i had to some up love in a song this would be it. I had a very important person in my life and this track described our relationship perfectly. Everyone has a person in their life that has this type of connection, that connection of invincibility, that you two can do anything together and nothing can stop you. That connection can be anything, two friends, two siblings, parents and children, what ever it is its a very strong thing. Dave Matthew was able to take that emotion, feeling, connection and make it into a song perfectly. And I'm not sure about you but when you find that person you will never be able to listen to this song without thinking of them.

"Suicide By Star"

"Suicide By Star

This is an awesome piece. It is a song written by a band called God Is An Astronaut. I first heard this piece a year ago while working with one of my friends at school.  He told me that this song had a musical build up like nothing he has ever heard before and man was he right. This piece starts out very mysterious and space like, but gradually starts to build up and up. I very much like how they do this, I have heard songs where they try to attempt this but fail miserably, God Is An Astronaut nailed it perfectly. They create tons of tension within the piece and at the very end they finally relieve it. This really is a magnificent piece.

"Plane"

"Plane"

This song is very important to me, i can't describe how important it is. His voice is so smooth through out this and is just filled with passion. He creates this "movement" within the piece that i can resist nodding my head to. I quit literally have to resist swaying to this song, but on a side note why should one resist dancing to music? I fined it hard to describe in words how amazing this song really is. The combination acoustic guitar and drums (I'm blanking on the type of drums those are) is just amazing, they sound great together. I mean as I listen to it right now i can't help but move to the music. He doesn't miss a beat, his rhymes are so smooth and flawless. He builds this huge energy up and than he brings it back down to a calm state with out making it "awkward". Once again absolutely amazing and gorgeous.
It was brought to my attention that it was unclear that if you click on the names under the title it takes you to YouTube clips of the piece. Enjoy!

"Sail"

"Sail"

When i first heard this song i was very much in love with how they combined both an electronic type beat with an orchestra, if that makes any sense at all. This piece isn't that complicated sounding, but if you really start to listen closely you will start to hear tons of little complexities to it. When I hear that smooth yet crisp bass and the orchestra plunking in harmony I can't help but let my feet start moving to the beat and closing my eyes and letting it take over my thoughts. They were able to keep the song "calm" but were able to fill it with emotion and feeling, you can defiantly hear this in his voice. This song really gets into your head and stays there, now I am not going to talk about the lyrics. Tons of people have their own opinion on what the lyrics mean but I will say this, they are perfect. The lyrics some how make sense in their own way, when you really pay attention to the lyrics you could at some points think "wait how does that..." but if you listen to it as a whole its absolutely perfect and catchy. (I hate the world catchy, I try to use it as little as possible)

"Tamacun"

"Tamacun" Live

This song can just be described as amazing. The power these two create with their guitars is absolutely striking. The energy they play with is absolutely unreal. I can not listen to this song with out getting excited. This latin style has always appealed to me, theres something about two acoustic guitars going at it that just draws me in, and they way they hit their guitars to create a driving beat is amazing. This performance just...its just amazing because its solely based on music. It is not one of these big production with millions of lights, flames and pyrotechnics. Its just two people and two guitars. Now yes i do understand there is some lighting, but go to a Paul McCartney or a Dave Matthews Band concert and than compare it to this one. Im looking forward to looking into them more and finding more music by them.

"Circle of life"

"Circle of Life"

We all know the song "Circle of Life" from the Lion King. I'm pretty sure this is the soundtrack for everyones childhood that was born around the late 90s (well 1994 and up). The piece was composed by Elton John and the lyrics by Tim Rice. Right when you put the cd in and press play, your hit with the Lebohang Morake (Lebo M) singing "Here comes a lion, Father" in isiZulu (the language of the Zulu people). This opening is like nothing i have ever heard before, the passion it is sang with is overwhelming. When the choir comes in they come in with what I feel is a nice soothing chant, I'm always amazed how well the choir stays together and how well the harmonize with each other. Now you can't forget that this was Disney so it was gonna be amazing. When Carmon Twillie joins in her voice is perfect for this song, I'm having a hard time trying to describe her voice so I'm going to just put it plain and simple...beautiful. One last thing about this song, if you listen closely there are tons of little sounds and instruments that have short little parts but add whole another level. It is really a brilliant piece.

"Ecstasy of Gold"

My goal is to post a new song everyday and to write a short synopsis on the piece.

"Ecstasy of Gold"

My first piece is a piece from The Good, The Bad and The Ugly called "Ecstasy of Gold" performed by Yo Yo Ma written by Ennio Morricone. This piece has an incredible power to it. In the beginning the piece starts relaxed and calmed. If you listen closely you can hear Yo Yo Ma breathing giving the beginning a sense of mortality. With every bow stroke he takes you can feel him pushing the piece forward, giving it momentum. You are than greeted by a very simple but clear brass part giving the piece a full accompaniment and driving it further in life. Yo Yo Ma is accompanied by a very stunning orchestra, not only are they able to maintain a perfect balance between themselves and Yo Yo Ma but the detail they give  to every note is astonishing. Yo Yo Ma is able to emphasize each note and create a very detailed story line. This is truly a magnificent piece. This piece can give inspiration and can turn the worst day into one filled with hope. I hope you can see what i see in this piece and truly enjoy the magnificent performance of Yo Yo Ma's and the Roma Sinfonietta Orchestras performance of  "Ecstacy of Gold" written by Ennio Morricone, from the movie The Good, The Bad and The Ugly. I would like to finish off by say a quote that my friend said about this piece, "this song makes me feel like there is still good in the world, even though it seems at times there is none".
Please feel free to leave your comments on this piece.
